I also have to produce a photoshoot for Good Weekend, the NYT magazine of Australia, by this Wednesday.
The instructions were as follows:
HI Julia,
we would like you to please have a laptop so you’re identifiably a blogger, and for the pic to show that you’re in New York at first glance, and for the shot to be in colour, and a number of different setups and frame orientations: wide, tight, horizontal, vertical.
Have recently run a Brooklyn bridge shot that went horribly wrong, so that has painful associations for us.
Our rate is [redacted]US for 1/2 day.
We don’t have a budget for clothes or styling.
Do you have a link to your photographer’s site?
Let me know if this suits
[redacted]
Okay, so, I already have the appropriate gown (in earlier emails they specified “glamour” - and even if they hadn’t, I would have gone that route anyway). It’s Diane von Furstenberg goldish/silver metallic, long and gorgeous. Done.
But now, for the location … and a LAPTOP? ugh. I hate, hate HATE to include a laptop, it’s so cliche! Aren’t there ANY OTHER WAYS for people to realize A) you blog for a living than using a laptop as a device, and B) you live in New York than using a cab for a device?
BTW, I’ve done both already, so. You know, maybe I’m just bored.
Or maybe we should have a photo taken with a laptop in a cab while looking at the Empire state building and wearing a Yankees cap.
Just a thought.
Any other suggestions - or even better - quintessentially New York/blogging photos I should imitate? Submit them here and I’ll post the best ones during the evening and the day tomorrow.
