If you live in the Chicagoland area or plan to visit before October 31st (when this production’s run ends), please, please, PLEASE get tickets to Mary Zimmerman’s BEYOND BRILLIANT rendition of the Leonard Bernstein adaptation of Voltaire’s 18th century magnum opus (whew! did you follow that?)
It was three hours of Bernstein’s musical artistry and Voltaire’s sardonic wit, all staged with the creative genius of Zimmerman. I was, to put it mildly, blown away. (As were my parents, who have seen many Candide performances, as well as prior Zimmerman productions. They said it was one of her best, and that’s saying something.)
Go!
