Hi. I'm Julia.

I am, as I say in my bio, personally & professionally, a handful. Also? Rambunctious, indefatigable, sometimes simply obnoxious. But I mean well.
I pretty much like any conversation encompassing sociology, biology, psychology, philosophy, architecture, media, technology, feminism, personal growth and the absurd machinations between men & women otherwise known as "dating." Yeah. I said it. I'm into that shit.

Yes, I'm really nice. No, I'm not faking it.

Me right now.  Meghan and I met Randi and her hubby Brent at the Cheesecake Factory tonight in Palo Alto … Randi, who works at Facebook, was sporting a sweatshirt, and I said “God, I wish I had one of those!” and poof! she pulls out two, one for Meghan, one for me.  UNBELIEVABLE.  The Secret works!  haha

This is a (shoddy) imitation of last year’s photo.

Photo sent to me today from our amazing puppy-sitters, the most Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood style couple (that’s my convoluted way of saying they’re good neighbors), who live three floors down and watch Mason and Lilly whenever Mary and I are away.

What I’m thinking about.
I hadn’t realized it had gotten so bad until I complained to Sarah Lacy today that I felt as if, over the past few years, I had become as sexually repressed as Charlotte York.  And she said, “Julia, you’re MUCH worse. Charlotte at least had sex!!!”
Hmm.  This is worrisome. Do other women have this problem?  I just find it easier to shut down completely, focus on my work, etc.
This is worthy of further thought.  But not tonight!

With one of my oldest childhood friends, Elly - a Stanford ‘03 grad and 3L at Yale Law - who is now working at a law firm in SF for the summer.
Elly actually went out and bought a copy, then proceeded to hold it up in front of the old stodgy lawyers at the party and yell out “She’s famous for nothing!” and then cackle. Ah, old friends are the best.
I promise this will be (more or less) the last Wired related photo I put up.

Actually, that twilight seems pretty good right now.

with Wired writer Jason Tanz and EIC Chris Anderson, after the filmed “Conversation” (which will appear on Wired’s website sometime next week, I believe).
I told them to look as perturbed as possible in this photo. They take direction well!

At Wired’s offices. Walking in to find this was surreal.
(Outfit, in case you were wondering: Nine West heels from last season, DVF skirt from this one, H&M blouse, and Express belt)

At Yahoo filming Sarah Lacy’s Tech Ticker interview. I wasn’t thrilled with my performance; we had such an incredible hour and a half long pre-interview conversation, I wish that could have been filmed instead. As Meghan would say, I shot my load. (Sarah: “Well, you were a little ramble-y!”) I blame it on trying to impress her.

Sarah claimed the green screen was making her dizzy. I’m pretty sure it was just my voice, and she was being polite.

This photo, taken almost exactly a year ago today, documents the first conversation I ever had with journalist, author, speaker, on-air interviewer and all around incredible woman Sarah Lacy. Now she’s one of my favorite people in this world … and she’s interviewing me for Yahoo Tech Ticker in less than two hours!
