With my old friend and mentor, the very talented Michael Wilbon, in Chicago this evening.
He’s still trying to teach me about sports, and I’m still sorta kinda ignoring him. ;)
Who knows, though? Maybe one day I’ll surprise him with my insightful athletic commentary. Never say never.
ish.

Read the Chicago Trib’s fairly comprehensive review of The Wit here, and the decidedly more mixed Yelp reviews of Roof here.
Personally? The views are clearly extraordinary, but the place - only open a month - is choatic, disorganized, crowded and loud. If I wanted that, I could find it in New York. ;)
PS. My dress is (once again!) Aqua by Bloomingdale’s.

With Michael Wilbon tonight at The Wit in Chicago. Michael’s been my mentor - as he describes it, “since you were 19!!” - but in reality, just since I was a junior in college (felt like 19, haha).
He gave me all sorts of career advice, which I’m now mulling over …

I’m trying to take care of a host of unpleasant tasks I’ve been procrastinating for, like, two years while I’m at my parents house (health insurance, financial organization, etc), so I’ve been rewarding myself with breaks - like reading Texts from Last Night.
The only question I have is: are these texts REAL?? If so, where do I find people like this?!
They. are. hi-larious.

Photo I took of my new hat (from Olive & Bette’s on the Upper West side) before I left for Chicago.
I meant to wear it here, but um … the whole “raining every day” thing has been cramping my style.

Update on Dan

Subject: Cancer Dan
Hey,
A lot of us who follow the blog were touched by Julia’s friend with cancer, dan. I remember that she planned to return to Chicago to help him rally after chemo. I know how tough that can be. I wonder: now that Julia’s in Chicago, is Dan there? What’s going on? It’s not really fair to raise this life-and-death drama and not follow up.
Hi … no, Dan is not here. He’s still in the hospital in Boston. He was meant to be here now, but things haven’t gone that well there. He is in the hospital 24-7 now, which obviously isn’t exactly his idea of a good time.
I talk with him regularly, and spoke with him last night, but I’m not sure what he wants me to share on his behalf, so I won’t say anything else.
I plan to come back here when he returns, hopefully in August.
PS. I told him to get an iPhone so I could text him - yes, the kid doesn’t have TEXT MESSAGING - and he promised he’d do so when I got health insurance. So I spent yesterday and this morning going over the arcane details of seventeen different Oxford plans. HA! That’ll show him.

- Meghan, this one’s for you, baby.
