So.  I get invited to this Sex & the City (The Movie) The DVD release party at the New York Public Library.  Despite an admittedly over-the-top location, I didn’t think much of it.  After all, it was a DVD release.  How big could it be?

Well.  Hmm.  Apparently very.

According to my source, Warner Bros spent almost a million dollars on the event, and it looked it.

And yet?  It managed to be one of the worst parties I’ve attended in recent memory.

So!  What the hell happened, exactly?

Well … frankly?  The guest list.  There’s just no nice way to put this, so I’ll just say it.  It sucked.

Can’t visualize?  Imagine the inside of your least favorite meatpacking hellhole, er, sorry, CLUB, then imagine it in a bigger, nicer venue, with bizarre black & pink dice decorations (yeah, like in Grease), deafening music and overwhelming & entirely unnecessary security.  Oh - but about half the people.  Because this event, unlike those clubs, was not crowded (despite the lies of the PR reps at the door that it was “at capacity.”)

I’m not usually so harsh on parties - it’s hard to pull off a good one, and things don’t always go as planned - but I kept thinking, “a million dollars for this?”

That’s a lot of dvd sales.
